B-Boy Pioneer Crazy Legs is prepping for the upcoming Rock Steady Crew 33rd Anniversary with a weekend full of star studded events. “Friday (July 30th) we will kick off the anniversary at Libations, then Saturday (July 31st 3pm-9pm) we will have the annual battle,” Crazy Legs said in an interview. “The crew and soloist winners will be flown to London to represent North America at the Sony Ericsson UK B-Boy Championship World Finals.” The battle, which takes place at the Altman Building in Manhattan, will be followed that evening by a Funk Styles party hosted by Crazy Legs and presentation of the SPY Award to this year’s honoree, MOY. Though B-Boy culture is now an international phenomenon, Crazy Legs feels that overseas, there is a broader public support for the art form. “This year I am funding the Anniversary events out of my own pocket. But in Korea they have grants just for B-Boys, they even have training facilities set up for them.” Sunday, August 1st from 12pm – 9pm will be the Rock Steady Anniversary concert which will feature performances by Big Daddy Kane, EPMD, Kurtis Blow, Artifacts, Lakim Shabazz, Black Sheep, 9th Wonder, and numerous surprise guests. The free concert is taking place in Lincoln Park in Newark, New Jersey. Crazy Legs plans to give back to the community by promoting the Rock Steady for Life concert as a charity event. “I want every one to know that Sunday’s event is also a food drive and I encourage everybody to bring canned foods which we can distribute to needy families.” The world famous Rock Steady Crew continues to be highly visible in film and television appearing in America’s Got Talent, Step Up in 3D, and Bouncing Cats most recently.

DMC continues campaign for adopted and abused children

Rap legend Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of the world famous rap group Run-DMC continues to campaign for the rights of adopted and abused children. DMC is part of the “Be Careful Who Cares for Your Child” public service campaign in New York that is encouraging parents to be more responsible with the people they hire to care for their children. The campaign was launched in the midst of several children’s’ death at the hands of childcare givers in the city. “Very few people believe that someone they love or trust could ever hurt their child, but sadly it happens,” Mayor Bloomberg said in a press conference last week. “Choosing an appropriate caregiver is one of the most important decisions a parent can make, and just because someone is a relative or close friend does not mean they are capable of taking care of a child.” DMC will be featured in ads on TV, radio, bus shelters and the Internet.
More Foxy Brown drama

According to TMZ, late last night Foxy Brown was visiting someone, possibly producer Sean Gill with whom she is working on her album, in a luxury penthouse on 43rd st in NYC when a brawl erupted. Although details are sketchy, sources say that Foxy was fighting in the lobby of the high rise with several people and it took 10 people to break the fight up. and one of the people she was fighting with was her manager. Foxy was able to flee the scene before the NYPD arrived. Just last week, Foxy was arrested and charged with felonies associated with violating an order of protection.
She has been charged with public lewdness, harassment, and criminal contempt in that case for being involved in a fracas with longtime rival, Arlene Raymond. She has denied that she displayed her buttocks to a neighbor. Foxy knows how to stay in the spotlight with no music out.
Nelly concert dispute will be headed to court

A dispute over an outdoor concert in Branson, Missouri featuring rapper Nelly will head to court, after promoters and city officials failed to reach an agreement last night (July 28th) in a dispute over the safety of the event. City alderman voted unanimously last night to uphold their original decision to not allow the concert to be held in the parking lot of The Grand Palace, which is currently undergoing $500,000 in renovations. Permits to hold the concert outdoors were denied again, despite promoter Paul Dunn’s efforts to present an updated plan to address security, parking and noise concerns. Officials for The Grand Palace were also on hand last night to protest the alderman’s ruling and to support Dunn and other local business owners who estimate the concert could generate hundreds-of-thousands of dollars in income. According to the News-Leader, promoters will now challenge the legality of the ruling in Taney County Circuit Court. Over 3,000 tickets have been sold to the Nelly concert, which is slated for August 21st.

The Facebook staff in Palo Alto, California, were treated to a brief preview of Kanye West’s newest material when he recently visited. “I’ve been writing new stuff for the new album and I’ve just got a couple raps that I really like, so I thought it’d be cool just to say them for you all,” West said to the Facebook employees. “All y’all turn your phones off.” While standing on a table reciting his material, Kanye essentially gave the Facebook staff a spoken word preview of the album. “This is actually a bit more like a poem,” West said at the top of “Lost,” a song about love gone wrong. “You’re my devil/ You’re my angel/ You’re my heaven/ You’re my hell,” he sneers at one point, then goes on more angrily: “Lost in the plastic life/ Let’s break out of this fake-ass party/ Turn this into a classic night.” “Chain Gang” is what many are calling classic Kanye with lines like “My teeth already white/ You gonna make me floss for nothing,” and “They try to tell me aliens built the pyramids/ I swear, life’s a b***h on a pyramid” ) “It took me 33 years of my life to write [this]. It means a lot to me, and it’s called ‘Mama’s Boyfriend,’” West said of another song, as the room grew quiet. “There’s a lot of use of the N-word, but I’m allowed to use it. Afterwards, the rapper blogged about the experience. “Many times in life I’ve had to deal with moments of doubt. And as it’s been a minute since I’ve performed any fresh material in front of an audience, this could’ve been one of those moments… but it wasn’t,” Kanye wrote. “Your energy was a gift so electric, so genuine, that it really helped me give my best. The energy was so inspiring I had to keep going!” We cant wait for the full album.
